New The Interview Movie Got Mixed Reviews From Top Critics

theinterviewmpsmall

New The Interview movie got mixed reviews from top critics. Columbia Pictures (Sony) released their new, very controversial comedy flick, “The Interview,” into theaters 2 days ago, December 25th, and the top movie critics have revealed their opinions with their reviews. It turns out that they were pretty mixed on it, giving it an overall 51 score out of a possible 100 across 24 reviews at Metacritic.com.

The movie stars: James Franco, Seth Rogen, Lizzy Caplan and Randall Park. We’ve added blurbs from some of the critics, below.

Richard Roeper at the Chicago Sun-Times, gave it a 75 score, stating: “The Interview sticks to the anything-for-a-laugh plan for nearly the entire journey, with far too many jokes about things going in and coming out of rear ends.”

Peter Travers from Rolling Stone, gave it 75 also, saying: “It’s stupid. It’s in bad taste. It impossible. I know all that. Look, Quentin Tarantino killed Hitler in “Inglourious Basterds” and the neo-Nazis stayed quiet. It’s a farce, people.”

G. Allem Johnson over at the San Francisco Chronicle, gave it a 75. He said: “No matter what you think of dumb comedies, The Interview, thanks allegedly to Kim, has gone from disposable to indispensible cinema. It’s a must-see movie in the context of what has happened, and will spark a discussion of, in comedy, how far is too far?”

Joe Neumaier from the New York Daily News, gave it a 60 score, stating: ” Real-life geopolitical blunders aside, The Interview generally hits its marks. And every time it does skid into juvenile idiocy — with too much scatological humor, for instance, and an overuse of “you-go-bro!” attitude — it follows it with a stride or two toward uproarious meta-satire.”

Alonso Duralde at TheWrap, gave it a 52 grade, saying: ” While The Interview never slacks in its mission to tell jokes, it’s such a messy and meandering movie that it never quite lands as a satire of politics or the media or anything else.”

A.O. Scott from The New York Times, gave it a 50 score. He stated: “The Interview is pretty much what everyone thought it would be before all the trouble started: a goofy, strenuously naughty, hit-and-miss farce, propelled not by any particular political ideas but by the usual spectacle of male sexual, emotional and existential confusion.”

Sara Stewart from the New York Post, gave it a 50 grade, stating: “Hate to say it, but this film ain’t half the satire it could have been.”

New Unbroken Movie Got Mixed Reviews From Top Critics

unbroken movie poster image

New Unbroken Movie got mixed reviews from top critics. Universal Pictures released their new Angelina Jolie directed drama flick, “Unbroken,” into theaters yesterday,December 25th, and all the reviews are in from the top critics. They seemed to be pretty mixed, giving it an overall 59 score out a possible 100 across 42 reviews at Metacritic.com.

It stars: Garrett Hedlund, Jack O’Connell, Domhnall Gleeson, Finn Wittrock and Miyavi. We’ve posted blurbs from a few of the critics, below.

Joe Neumaier at the New York Daily News, gave it a great 100 score, stating: “When you get through it, though, you can’t help but feel uplifted by this tough-skinned movie that can stand with the best muscular wartime dramas in the American movie canon.”

Peter Travers from Rolling Stone, gave it an 88 grade, saying: “Jolie has an army of craftsmen in her corner, notably camera poet Roger Deakins (No Country for Old Men). But it’s her vision that gives Unbroken a spirit that soars. In honoring Louis’ endurance, she does herself proud.”

Michael O’Sullivan from the Washington Post, gave it a 75 grade. He said: ” Unbroken may not exactly be mired in sanctimony, but it’s standing, almost up to its ankles, in an unhealthy sense that its subject — about whose simple humanity the film otherwise goes to great lengths to illuminate — is a candidate for sainthood.”

Todd McCarthy from The Hollywood Reporter, gave it a 70 score, stating: ” A great true story is telescoped down to a merely good one in Unbroken. After a dynamite first half-hour, Angelina Jolie’s accomplished second outing as a director slowly looses steam.”

Chris Nashawaty over at Entertainment Weekly, gave it a 67 score, stating: “It’s moving, admirable, and occasionally exhilarating. What it’s missing is the one thing that could always be counted on with Jolie as a star: the spark of danger.”

Brian Tallerico from RogerEbert.com, gave it a 63 score. He stated: ” It’s one of those inspirational Hollywood dramas about which there isn’t anything “overtly wrong” with it. It’s well-cast, it looks great, it has that intense centerpiece in the raft, and it certainly conveys a true story worth telling. And yet I keep coming back to that beautiful sunrise that opens the film. It’s just too damn pretty.”

It turns out that half ,or a little more than half of them liked it with an overall 59 score out of a possible 100 across 45 reviews at Metacritic.com.

The movie stars: Ian McKellen, Martin Freeman, Richard Armitage, Evangeline Lilly, Lee Pace, Luke Evans, Benedict Cumberbatch, Stephen Fry, Cate Blanchett, Ian Holm, Christopher Lee, Hugo Weaving, Ken Stott, James Nesbitt, Orlando Bloom, John Bell, Manu Bennett, Jed Brophy, Adam Brown, John Callen, Billy Connolly, Ryan Gage, Mark Hadlow, Peter Hambleton, Stephen Hunter, William Kircher, Lawrence Makoare, Sylvester McCoy, Graham McTavish, Dean O’Gorman, Mikael Persbrandt, and Aidan Turner. We’ve posted blurbs from a few of the critics, below.

Brice Ingram from the Chicago Sun-Times, gave it a nice 88 grade, stating: “Fighting — presented with Jackson’s usual double helpings of visual splendor, emotional oomph and low-key comedy — is what Battle of the Five Armies is all about.”

Joe Morgenstern at the Wall Street Journal, gave it an 80 score. He said: ” Now, thanks to this last film, in 3-D, the pleasure is intense, and mixed with awe. There is majesty here, and not just because we’re in the presence of magnificently regal madness.”

Todd McCarthy from The Hollywood Reporter, gave it an 80 score. He stated: “The final stretch of The Battle of the Five Armies possesses a warm, amiable, sometimes rueful mood that proves ingratiating and manages to magnify the good and minimize the bad of the trilogy.”

Chris Nashawaty from Entertainment Weekly, gave it a 75 grade, saying: “Like everything else in Jackson’s Tolkienland, the buildup to the climactic melee stretches on too long. But when it comes, it’s a doozy.”

New The Purge 2 Anarchy Movie Got Mixed Reviews From Top Critics

the purge 2: anarchy movie poster image

New The Purge 2 Anarchy movie got mixed reviews from top critics. Universal Pictures released their new horror/thriller flick, “The Purge 2: Anarchy” into theaters this weekend, and all the reviews are in from the top movie critics. It turns out that it did good enough to please about half of them with a 49 score out of a possible 100 across 31 reviews at Metacritic.com.

The movie stars: Frank Grillo, Michael K. Williams, Carmen Ejogo, Zach Gilford, Kiele Sanchez, and Keith Stanfield. We’ve added blurbs from a couple of the critics, below.

Manohla Dargis at The New York Times, gave it a 70 score, stating: “Kill or be killed isn’t the official tag line of The Purge: Anarchy, but it fits. It would also make a more suitable title for this satisfyingly creepy, blunt, down-and-dirty thriller, one of those follow-ups that improves on the original.”

Frank Scheck over at The Hollywood Reporter, gave it a 70 grade. He said: “The Purge: Anarchy efficiently exploits its high-concept premise while delivering far more visceral thrills than its predecessor.”

Claudia Puig at USA Today, gave it a 63 score, saying: “The film is at its best when it focuses on the more specific conflicts of five people thrown together on Purge night.”

Simon Abrams at RogerEbert.com, gave it a 50 score. He stated: “So weak on a basic storytelling level that it makes you want to nitpick everything about it, from characters’ generically illogical decisions (ex: Why are you running towards mounted guns?) to its cheap-looking, jiggly hand-held cinematography.”

Bruce Ingram over at the Chicago Sun-times, gave it a 50 grade. He stated: “In The Purge: Anarchy, unfortunately, grim and brutal is pretty much all we get.”

Betsy Sharkey from the Los Angeles Times, gave it a 50 grade as well. She stated: “The Purge: Anarchy is a good deal bloodier, but also — gulp — a good deal better than its predecessor. Make no mistake, a good “Purge” does not equal a good movie, but the post-apocalyptic thriller is slightly more interesting because it takes itself, and its menace, more seriously.”

New Transformers 5 movie in the works, set for 2016,new details. According to a new report from Moviepilot, there is definitely a new Transformers 5 movie in the works, and they’re saying it’s set to release some time in 2016. However, as of right now, there is no director attached as current director, Michael Bay, has reportedly called it quits after this last, 4th installment.

The current “Transformers 4: Age Of Extinction” flick has grossed $8.75 million dollars for the opening day. It still has Saturday and Sunday to hit some big, weekend numbers. Unfortunately, the top movie critics, totally ripped it apart with their harsh reviews. I mean it got some of the lowest scores I’ve ever seen them give a movie.

They basically claimed that it was nothing more than just a bunch of mindless action. But people love to go watch it, and I guess that’s all that matters.

New Veronica Mars Movie Received Mostly Positive Reviews From Major Critics

veronica mars movie poster image

New Veronica Mars movie received mostly positive reviews from major critics. Warner Bros. Pictures released their new drama/crime flick, “Veronica Mars” into theaters this weekend, and the reviews are in from the top critics. Most of them liked it too as it got a 62 score out of 100 across 32 reviews at Metacritic.com. We included a few snippets from a couple of them, below.

The film stars: Kristen Bell, Jason Dohring, Chris Lowell, Ryan Hansen, Krysten Ritter, Percy Daggs III, Tina Majorino, Francis Capra Ken Marino, and Enrico Colantoni.

Matt Zoller Seitz at RogerEbert.com, gave it a great 88 score, saying, “I can’t imagine anyone who liked the show not enjoying this film, even though the first half is stronger than the second, which spirals into a frenzy of double- and triple-crossing that’s less engaging than watching the characters reconnect, awkwardly but with feeling.”

Elizabeth Weitzman at the New York Daily News, gave it an 80. She stated: “It’s so much fun you may want to put a few bucks aside for a sequel.” Claudia Puig from USA Today, gave it a 75 score, saying, “A film noir detective story that works for both devotees of the series and the uninitiated.”

Owen Gleiberman over at Entertainment Weekly, gave it a 75, stating, “As directed by series creator Rob Thomas, the movie, like the show, is entertainingly fast-talking in a tidy, faux-serious way. Kristen Bell, if anything, has only gained in appeal.”

Betsy Sharkey at the Los Angeles Times, gave it a 70 score. She said: “It is clear in every frame that the filmmakers and actors really appreciate that loyalty. It doesn’t make for a particularly ambitious film, but it is a satisfying one as it moves easy, breezy over familiar terrain.”

Stephanie Merry from the Washington Post, gave it a 63, saying, “The movie lacks some of the verve and chemistry that made the series a must-see. I guess that makes the movie more of a good-to-see.” Peter Travers from Rolling Stone, gave it another 63, stating, “It’s Bell – riding high with the Disney-animated “Frozen” and Showtime’s carnal-fixated “House of Lies” – you want to follow anywhere. Bell is irresistible, and she makes us care.”

Sheri Linden over at The Hollywood Reporter, gave it a 60 score. She stated: “Thomas’ direction, especially of the villainous roles, gives a lot of the action a self-conscious, not-quite-real quality. Some aspects of the movie’s intentional artifice work better than others.”
