New A Walk In The Woods movie got mixed reviews from top critics. Broad Green Pictures released their new comedy/drama flick, “A Walk In The Woods,” into theaters this past Wednesday, September 2nd, 2015.

All the top movie critics have posted their reviews, and it turns out that they were pretty mixed about it, giving it an overall 51 score out of a possible 100 across 25 reviews at Metacritic.com.

The movie stars: Emma Thompson, Kristen Schaal, Mary Steenburgen, Nick Nolte, Nick Offerman and Robert Redford. We’ve posted blurbs from a few of the critics, below.

Todd McCarthy at The Hollywood Reporter, gave it a very good 80 score, saying: ” A Walk in the Woods serves as a terrific showcase for two exceptionally durable stars.”

Leah Greenblatt from Entertainment Weekly, gave it a 75 grade. He said: “Their odd couple interplay propels a series of shambling, expletive-laden mishaps that aim more for easy laughs than Wild epiphanies.”

Peter Keough at the Boston Globe, gave it a 63 score. He stated: “It consists of a series of episodic encounters, misadventures, and musings redeemed in part by the presence of two scenic wonders, the unspoiled 2,190-mile grandeur of the Appalachian Trail and the spectacular crapulousness of Nick Nolte.”

Susan Wloszczyna at RogerEbert.com, gave it a 63 grade, saying: “These guys still know how to not just hold our attention but grab it, even if their current film needs them more than they need it.”

Joe Neumaier at the New York Daily News, gave it a 60 score. He stated: “Natural” perfectly describes Nolte’s performance, too. With his growly voice and bear-like aura, he might be dismissed as a walking sight gag, but don’t let that fool you. Nolte’s way with a joke is nimble, and his delivery is spot-on.”

New Kristen Stewart American Ultra Movie Got Mixed Reviews From Top Critics

american ultra movie poster image

New Kristen Stewart American Ultra movie got mixed reviews from top critics. Lionsgate released their new action/comedy flick, “American Ultra,” into theaters today , August 21st, 2015, and all the reviews are in from the top movie critics. It turns out that half of them liked it with an overall 50 score out of a possible 100 across 29 reviews at Metacritic.com.

The movie stars: Connie Britton, Jesse Eisenberg, John Leguizamo, and Kristen Stewart. We’ve added blurbs from a couple of the critics, below.

Peter Hartlaub at the San Francisco Chronicle, gave it a decent 75 score, saying: “The screenplay is deceptively tight, even as the main characters seem to be buzzing aimlessly through the proceedings. Like the most successful films of the drug-hazed genre, this movie only appears to be going off the rails.”

Leah Greenblatt from Entertainment Weekly, gave it a 75 score too, stating: “Check your brain at the popcorn-butter pump in the lobby and enjoy it.”

Brian Truitt at USA Today, gave it a 63 grade, stating: “A lot Bourne and a little bong, the action comedy…is too earnest to be a stoner movie and too quirky to be an action flick. Therein lies the beauty of director Nima Nourizadeh’s Ultra: It exists to entertain in its own oddball universe, munchies optional.”

Neil Genzlinger at The New York Times, gave it a 60 grade, saying: “If you go, expect a diverting summer action adventure with occasional laughs, not a diverting stoner comedy with occasional action.”

Michael O’Sullivan at the Washington Post, gave it a 50 grade. He said: “American Ultra has a clever premise. But it misses several opportunities to at least comment on, if not skewer, the spy movies that it only halfheartedly pokes fun at. As it is, it’s content to generate a low-grade buzz, rather than deliver a true high.”

Sara Stewart from the New York Post, gave it a 50 score. She said: “What begins as a clever action-comedy a la “Pineapple Express” or Eisenberg’s earlier “Zombieland” devolves into a standard shoot-’em-up, with gore splashed around to distract us from the dearth of wit.”

New Straight Outta Compton movie got mostly positive reviews from top critics. Universal Pictures released their new drama flick, “Straight Outta Compton,” into theaters today, August 14th, 2015, and all the top critics have submitted their reviews. It turns out that most of them did indeed like it with an overall 71 score out of a possible 100 across 34 reviews at Metacritic.com.

The movie stars: Aldis Hodge, Corey Hawkins, Jason Mitchell, Neil Brown Jr., and O’Shea Jackson Jr. We’ve posted blurbs from a few of the critics, below.

Odie Henderson at RogerEbert.com, gave it an excellent 100 score, saying: “It plays like a Marvel superhero movie had Marvel been run by Suge Knight.”

Scott Foundas from Variety, gave it a 90 grade. He said: “If “Compton” is undeniably of the moment, it’s also timeless in its depiction of how artists and writers transform the world around them into angry, profane, vibrant and singular personal expression.”

Peter Travers at Rolling Stone, gave it an 88 score, stating: “Straight Outta Compton plays better when it’s outside the box, showing us N.W.A power and the consequences of abusing it. Would the movie be better if it didn’t sidestep the band’s misogyny, gay-bashing and malicious infighting? No shit. But what stands is an amazement, an electrifying piece of hip-hop history that speaks urgently to right now.”

Lou Lumenick over at the New York Post, gave it an 88 score, saying: “One of the summer’s most entertaining and provocative movies.”

Richard Roeper at the Chicago Sun-Times, gave it an 88 grade, saying: “This is one of the better musical biopics of the last 20 years.”

Chris Nashawaty at Entertainment Weekly, gave it an 83 score, stating: “Straight Outta Compton is a hugely entertaining film that works best if you don’t look at it too closely and just listen.”

Jim Farber at the New York Daily News, gave it an 80 grade. He stated: “No movie could capture all the alarming incidents and contradictions that make up the complete N.W.A. story. But in order to stress the group’s most righteous side, the movie downplays their youthful excesses as well as their flagrant sexism.”

James Rocchi from TheWrap, gave it a 76 grade, stating: “Even with the film’s mild flaws and arms-wide-open approach, it tells a powerful, engaging and compelling story of how America challenged and changed five young black men, and how they in turn challenged and changed America.”

Ann Hornaday from the Washington Post, gave it a 75 grade. She said: “Straight Outta Compton reminds viewers not only who N.W.A. were and what they meant, but also why they mattered — and still do.”

Matt Zoller Seitz at RogerEbert.com, gave it a great 100 score, saying: “McQuarrie understands that these films are essentially tall tales with a sense of humor, skating on the edge of parody at all times while maintaining a poker face.”

Todd McCarthy at The Hollywood Reporter, gave it a 90 grade. He said: “The formula of ingredients is familiar and time-tested, to be sure, but some cocktails go down much better than others and McQuarrie and company have gotten theirs just right here.”

Justin Chang from Variety, gave it a 90 score, stating: “At once questioning and reaffirming the pleasures of cinematic espionage, this is the rare sequel that leaves its franchise feeling not exhausted but surprisingly resurgent at 19 years and counting.”

Michael Phillips at the Chicago Tribune, gave it an 88 score. He stated: “The most assured and satisfying of the five so far.”

Richard Roeper from the Chicago Sun-Times, gave it an 88 score, saying: “At times the deception and the intrigue and the twists and turns make it nearly impossible follow every detail of the plot, but even when things get muddled, we know Ethan’s our hero.”

Alonso Duralde from TheWrap, gave it an 84 score, saying: “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation never pretends to be anything but a solidly entertaining collection of fighting, chasing, driving, falling and going-to-the-place-and-getting-the-thing. But at that level, it delivers completely. Choose to accept it.”

New Terminator Genisys Movie Got Mostly Negative Reviews From Top Critics

terminator genisys movie poster image

New Terminator Genisys movie got mostly negative reviews from top critics. Paramount Pictures released their new action/thriller flick, “Terminator Genisys,” into theaters this past Wednesday, July 1st, and all the reviews are in from the top movie critics in the business. It turns out that most of them didn’t find it to be all that good with an overall 39 score out of a possible 100 across 40 reviews at Metacritic.com.

The movie stars: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Byung-hun Lee, Courtney B. Vance, Dayo Okeniyi, Emilia Clarke, J.K. Simmons, Jai Courtney, Jason Clarke and Matt Smith. We’ve added blurbs from a couple of the critics, below.

Peter Travers at Rolling Stone, gave it a 75 score, saying: “Terminator Genisys fires on all action cylinders when director Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World) follows the model James Cameron set in the first two films, still the glory of the series.”

Michael O’Sullivan at the Washington Post, gave it a 63 score. He said: “Genisys goes back to what made the franchise work in the first place: not the machine inside the man, but vice versa.”

Christy Lemire at the RogerEbert.com, gave it a 50 grade, stating: “Schwarzenegger has turned into your elderly uncle, dancing like a goofball at your wedding after a couple glasses of champagne. He knows he’s being silly, and he knows that you know, and that alone is supposed to be good for a laugh. But it’s not. It’s just sad. He has essentially become McBain.”

Mick LaSalle from the San Francisco Chronicle, gave it a 50 score. He said: “For all its weaknesses, Terminator Genisys is a “Terminator” movie that feels like a “Terminator” movie, more than did “Terminator 3,” not to mention the ghastly “Terminator Salvation.”

Richard Roeper over at the Chicago Sun-Times, gave it a 50 grade. He stated: “The best thing in the movie is Schwarzenegger, who delivers the Guardian’s lines with perfect timing and creates an empathetic character, because as we know, nearly all the best movie robots somehow become just a little bit human as time goes on.”

Ty Burr from the Boston Globe, gave it a 50 score, saying: “”I’ll be back,” the man said, and he kept the promise, but I’m not sure we wanted him back like this.”

It turns out that they were pretty mixed on it, giving it an overall 51 score out of a possible 100 across 21 reviews at Metacritic.com.

The movie stars: Dermot Mulroney, Stefanie Scott, Lin Shaye, Angus Sampson and Leigh Whannell. We’ve supplied blurbs from a few of the critics, below.

Andy Webster at The New York Times, gave it a nice 80 grade, saying: “Ms. Shaye gives Insidious more than sufficient reason for a Chapter 4.”

Alonso Duralde at TheWrap, gave it a 78 grade, saying: “As a vehicle for Shaye, a veteran character actress getting the most screen time she’s ever been given, it’s a blast to watch her anchor this atmospheric look at the personal costs and triumphs of devoting your life to duking it out with nasty presences from the other side.”

Gary Goldstein over at the Los Angeles Times, gave it a 70 grade. He said: “It stands well on its own as a jumpy spookfest.”

Justin Lowe over at The Hollywood Reporter, gave it a 70 score, saying: ” Insidious co-creator Leigh Whannell’s economical script vividly reimagines Elise’s motivations for using her “gift” to aid the demon-afflicted while providing a clearer plotline that avoids many of the convoluted indulgences of the first and second episodes.”

Katherine Pushkar from the New York Daily News, gave it a 60 grade, saying: “You jump out of your skin the first few times the skeleton pops out at you. By the end of the ride, you’ve gotten a good look and it’s not so much scary as hokey.”

Kyle Anderson from Entertainment Weekly, gave it a 58 grade, claiming: “Insidious Chapter 3 is the worst kind of sequel: Not terrible, but also cartoonishly unnecessary.”

Todd McCarthy at The Hollywood Reporter, gave it a great 90 score, saying: “All hands on both sides of the camera do outstanding work. Clooney seems to be enjoying himself thoroughly as the old grump whose creative flame hasn’t been entirely extinguished, but it falls more to Robertson to carry the film, which she does with great energy and appeal.”

Bian Truitt at USA Today, gave it a 75 grade, stating: ” A spectacular ride for most of it, and while you’re a little let down at the end, you kind of want to jump back on and do it all over again.”

It turns out that it’s a very positive thing for this flick as most of them really liked it, giving it an overall 89 score out of a possible 100 across 42 reviews at Metacritic.com.

The movie stars: Charlize Theron, Megan Gale, Tom Hardy, John Howard, Nathan Jones, Nicholas Hoult, Zoe Kravitz, Richard Carter, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Hugh Keays-Byrne, Riley Keough, Abbey Lee Kershaw, Courtney Eaton, Josh Helman, Jennifer Hagan, iOTA , Angus Sampson, Joy Smithers, Gillian Jones, Melissa Jaffer and Melita Jurisic. We’ve provided blurbs from a few of the critics, below.

Kenneth Turan at the Los Angeles Times, gave it a perfect 100 score, saying: “Mad Max: Fury Road will leave you speechless, which couldn’t be more appropriate. Words are not really the point when it comes to dealing with this barn-burner of a post-apocalyptic extravaganza in which sizzling, unsettling images are the order of the day.”

Joe Morgenstern at the Wall Street Journal, gave it a 100 as well, saying: “The loveliest part of Mad Max: Fury Road is its grungy, quasi-Gothic imagery — the production was designed by Colin Gibson and photographed by John Seale. And the fullest flowering of its images can be found in its muscle cars, muscle trucks, muscle trailers and muscle buggies.”

A.O. Scott at The New York Times, gave it a 100. He said: “Even in the most chaotic fights and collisions, everything makes sense. This is not a matter of realism — come on, now — but of imaginative discipline. And Mr. Miller demonstrates that great action filmmaking is not only a matter of physics but of ethics as well. There is cause and effect; there are choices and consequences.”
