CW Green Lights MELROSE PLACE Remake, Renews 90210 & GOSSIP GIRL – But Where Is REAPER??
Big television news coming out of The CW this week. First up is the confirmation we knew was coming: The CW is remaking “Melrose Place.” Hopefully that one will be with all new faces or it’s likely to be more like “Melrose Retirement Home”!
The CW’s update of “Melrose Place” has received an official pilot order, and Oscar winner Davis Guggenheim will direct it.
A remake of the ’90s series about a group of twentysomethings living in the trendy Melrose neighborhood of Los Angeles, the pilot was written by Darren Swimmer and Todd Slavkin (”Smallville”).
Guggenheim, who won an Oscar for the documentary “An Inconvenient Truth,” is known for directing edgy TV dramas such as “Deadwood,” “24″ and the pilot for “The Unit.” But early in his career, he helmed lighter fare, including Fox’s “Party of Five.”
Good news for sex-crazed teenagers as well with the renewals of “90210″ and “Gossip Girl” along with “Smallville,” “America’s Next Top Model,” “One Tree Hill,” and “Supernatural.” Anyone notice something missing from that list? Yep: “Reaper”.
“Reaper” is preparing for its second season premiere on March 3rd, so hopefully the lack of a “Reaper” season 3 news is tied to the fact that season 2 hasn’t even breathed broadcast life yet. Expect a full review of the “Reaper” season 2 premiere later today, but for now I can confirm that the series is back and as great as ever.
