Variety says that “The Final Destination” is  No. 1 at the box office so far this weekend with $28.3 million, besting Rob Zombie’s “Halloween II.”

Actually, “Halloween II” came in at No. 3, behind Quentin Tarantino’s “Inglourious Basterds,” which is in its second week. I’m not one to speculate, but it looks like Zombie’s first “Halloween” faults may have kept people away for the sequel. Or maybe it was Dimension’s poorly-edited trailers. I still say they should’ve used that one that was leaked on the Web but never aired on TV. When are people going to start listening to me?

The final box office numbers will be available Monday afternoon.
