HBO Dumps Kayne West’s Wannabe ‘Curb’ Show
HBO has done a lot of stupid things with their programming in recent years. This isn’t one of them. Word has spread that HBO has decided to shelve the idea of a Kanye West improvisation style show a la “Curb Your Enthusiasm” which raises the question, “who thought that was possibly a good idea?” Oh yeah. Kanye West.
Director Larry Charles (“Borat”) was attached to support the project and gave this description of the show:
“What Kanye West said to me the first time, he said, ‘I’m the black Larry David.’ That’s the first thing he said to me. So it’s like a Kanye-and-Curb show, it’s kind of improvised about the situations and stuff.”
First off, Larry David is a comic genius who has spent decades developing some of the best comedy out there, including “Seinfeld” and the aforementioned “Curb Your Enthusiasm”. To just up and decide you’re the “black Larry David” because you once went on SNL, threw a temper tantrum, threw a temper tantrum, and again threw a temper tantrum does not place you on par with Larry David. [Kanye, initiate tantrum now.]
Kanye blames a shift in management at HBO and George Bush for the hesitation to move forward on the project. Don’t expect to see this show anytime soon.
