After the shocking news last week that Terrence Howard was being dropped from “Iron Man 2″ in favor of Don Cheadle filling in as Jim Rhodes, I didn’t think we could get any more exciting news. I was wrong.

Samuel L. Jackson is ready to join the cast of “Iron Man 2″ in some unknown fashion, according to the man himself:

At today’s press junket for Soul Men Sam was asked if he would be in Iron Man 2. He said he spoke with Favreau last night and was told he is in the sequel. What his role is, or how big it would be, he didn’t expand upon.

At first my mind was spinning with ideas of how he’d been cast, but then I remembered Jackson’s post-credits appearance as Nick Fury, the leader of S.H.I.E.L.D. As such, it should come as no surprise that Tony Stark will work his way into this league of superheroes during the follow-up to this summer’s massive blockbuster, “Iron Man”.

Now on to that whole situation with Terrence Howard being ejected from the sequel. Howard says he had no idea it was happening and learned of it through trade reports:

“Yeah, I found that out, too,” said Howard. “It was the surprise of a lifetime. There was no explanation. Just…up and vanished. I read something in the trades implicating that it was about money or something. But apparently the contracts that we write and sign aren’t worth the paper that they’re printed on, sometimes. Promises aren’t kept, and good faith negotiations aren’t always held up. Even friendships, people you support…”

Keep in mind that Hollywood contracts don’t mean squat. Despite Robert Downey Jr’s contract to return as Tony Stark, Marvel still had to work out another contract. Same with the film’s director, Jon Favreau. So despite what Howard says here I’m guessing it came down to high demands that the notoriously cheap Marvel wasn’t willing to meet.
