A rather awesome Mortal Kombat movie trailer hit the web this week, but it turns out there isn’t actually a movie in the works – yet. The Mortal Kombat trailer video, featuring one of our favorite sci-fi ladies, Jeri Ryan, spurred a slew of buzz over what looked like a pretty fabulous teaser for an upcoming film. Turns out, however, the video was just part of a pitch to Warner Brothers to try to sell them on the idea of making the movie.

Some viewers speculated the leaked Mortal Kombat trailer video was actually a game trailer, not a movie trailer. Star Trek: Voyager star Jeri Ryan, who appears in the clip, finally came out Wednesday to clear up the rumors.

“Okay, so… Mortal Kombat. It’s not a game trailer. Actually was made for the director to sell WB on his vision for a reimagined MK film,” Ryan posted on her Twitter feed. “I did it as a favor to a friend. No idea yet what WB’s reaction to it was. And I’m not sure how you can contact WB to push them to make it. But you guys are resourceful…! ;-)”

So far Warner Brothers hasn’t commented on the pitch video or whether they might indeed be moving forward with the project. We fervently hope so, because this ‘fake’ movie trailer was a damn sight better than most ‘real’ ones we’ve seen out there this year. Based just on this promo clip, you can bet we’d be heading to the theater to see the movie on the big screen!
