NBC Debuts New Cop Series – SOUTHLAND

In case NBC’s other new series “Kings” wasn’t keeping your Tivo full this spring then you’re in luck because the peacock network is launching another new series this week, “Southland.” “Southland” premieres on Thursday, March 26th at 10pm is a new cop drama starring Benjamin McKenzie from “The O.C.”
From Emmy Award winners John Wells, Ann Biderman and Chris Chulack comes a raw and authentic look at the police unit in Los Angeles. From the beaches of Malibu to the streets of East Los Angeles, “Southland” is a fast-moving drama that will take viewers inside the lives of cops, criminals, victims and their families.
Michael Cudlitz (”A River Runs Through It”) plays John Cooper a seasoned Los Angeles cop assigned to train young rookie Ben Sherman (Benjamin McKenzie, “The O.C.”). Cooper’s honest, no-nonsense approach to the job leaves Sherman questioning whether or not he has what it takes to become a police officer.
Reminds me of “Training Day” though I hope they won’t go the in the direction of a bad cop so quickly with Michael Cudlitz’s character. Here are a couple of clips from “Southland” to help get a feel for if this one should be on your list. My biggest question right now is what’s the long term plan for “Southland” considering the weekday 10pm slot will be owned by Jay Leno before too long.
Southland premieres Thursday, April 9th @ 10/9c on NBC

I think Ben and Michael look great together. I don’t think he plays a bad cop. I think he is a hardened vet breakin in the new guy………… It looks fantastic.
