New ‘As Above So Below’ movie got mostly negative reviews from top critics. Legendary Pictures and Universal Pictures released their new psychological thriller film, “As Above So Below” into theaters this weekend, and the top movie critics have delivered all their reviews. It turns out that it was definitely not even close to being one of their favorites, getting only an overall 36 score out of a possible 100 across 17 reviews over at the metacritic.com site.
The film stars: Perdita Weeks, Ben Feldman and Edwin Hodge. We’ve posted blurbs from a couple of the critics, below. Jordan Hoffman from the New York Daily News, gave it a 60 score, saying: “One of the world’s top disturbing tourist attractions is now finally getting the spooky film it deserves.”
Peter Debruge at Variety, gave it a 50 score, stating: “It all makes for clumsy-fun escapism, not bad as end-of-summer chillers go.” Mark Jenkins from the Washington Post, gave it a 37, stating: “As Above, So Below is inherently absurd, but it would be somewhat less so had it fully committed to just one of its ridiculous premises.”
Jeanette Catsoulis over at the New York Times, gave it a 30 grade. She stated: “This quivering effort from the director John Erick Dowdle only increases in impenetrability whenever anything mildly curious occurs.”
Jordan Mintzer from The Hollywood Reporter, gave it another very bad 30 score, saying: “This low budget effort from director John Erick Dowdle and writer-producer-brother Drew Dowdle provides a few late scares after plenty of eye-rolling setup, with said scares due more to the heavy sound design than the action itself.”
Lastly, Robert Abele over at the Los Angeles Times, gave it an extremely horrible 10 score, stating: “An entertainment-free sinkhole of Dramamine-worthy nonsense.” Stay tuned. Follow us on Facebook by Clicking Here. Follow us on Google Plus by Clicking Here. Follow us on Twitter by Clicking Here.
