Critically praised and hotly demanded, “The Dark Knight,” hits shelves today on DVD and Blu-ray which would be hard to miss even if you were living in a bat cave. The fruits of Batman director Christopher Nolan have gathered roughly $1.4 billion with just two films as “The Dark Knight” quickly approaches the $1 billion mark worldwide.

So when movies like “Twilight” get a rush sequel job just weeks after debut you might be surprised to hear that progress on Nolan’s third installment has barely moved a muscle. Then again, when you’ve been damn near perfect for your first two steps, would you really want to leap blindly on your third? Nolan doesn’t:

“I don’t know why they’re hard to do,” Nolan says. “Maybe there’s so much expectation to them. But I wouldn’t want to do one if it weren’t going to be as good as the first or second. That’s not respectful to the fans.”

It’s incredibly refreshing to hear something other than “$$$$ $$$$ $$$$” come out of the mouth of someone from Hollywood. So sit back and wait Batman fans because we could be looking at years before Bruce Wayne takes to the skies.

Then again, why wouldn’t Nolan and Bale want to finish riding the TDK wave that hasn’t stopped even after five months?
