Actress turned director Drew Barrymore has decided to step behind the lens once more to direct a sequel to the classic film Wizard of Oz, IMDb News reports. Barrymore was originally slated to star in the film, but it is now uncertain whether she will both star and direct. This will be Drew‘s second time directing, the first of which was last year’s Whip It.

The Twi-show Must Go On – Twilight Pay Disputes Handled

It looks like the second half of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn will move forward with filming, after all! I can hear the tears of joy all around me! After some of the stars of the film were arm wrestling over contracts, it seems the dispute has been settled and the movie will start shooting in the fall of this year.

So apparently Summit Entertainment knows what the right call to make is when your biggest franchise is on the brink of a hold-up due to some pay disputes. It’s not as if Ashley Greene or Kellan Lutz had careers before Twilight in the first place, but it is hard to deny that they are in high demand right now. While Twilight started off as a small little vampire film for a niche audience and blew up into…well, one of the most out of control phenomenons of our generation. Cringe. I guess the $1.5 million pay checks for both actors will be a worthwhile investment. Smart choice, Summit.

Disney to Release a Live Action version of ‘Cinderella’

Earlier this week Deadline reported that Disney has spent seven figures on a pitch for a live action version of the classic Cinderella. This is news that I had to let stew, because just like any other twenty-something female (or any female of any age, let’s be real here) I am obsessed with the old school animated Disney movies. If I had to pick one to be made into a live action movie, the first picks would be Sleeping Beauty or The Little Mermaid but I suppose I can see the complications with taking on the latter. And while Cinderella is one of my favorite fairy tales and one of my favorite Disney movies, it still seems to be one of the most commonly re-told stories out there. Remember Ever After starring Drew Barrymore? Dreamy sigh.

Revisit Your Youth with ‘Hot Tub Time Machine’ UNRATED

Credit: MGM Home Entertainment

Hot Tub Time Machine looks like it might be the best movie that John Cusack has done since High Fidelity, which was the best movie he’d done since the 80’s. All that other stuff in between was just filler, waiting for this triumphant return! Ok, actually, I haven’t seen Hot Tub Time Machine yet, but I’ve heard great things about it. It’s one of those movies that was in and out of the theatre so fast that I hardly had a chance! Darn you, real life, for getting in the way of the fun things that I want to do. Lucky for us, Hot Tub Time Machine is due out on Blu-Ray and DVD on June 29th and this time it’s UNRATED! John Cusack isn’t the only name worth dropping in this comedy, though. The cast also includes Craig Robinson (NBC’s The Office) and Rob Corddry (Comedy Central’s The John Stewart Show) as well, and features appearances by comedy legend Chevy Chase (NBC’s Community), Crispin Glover (Back to the Future) and Clark Duke (Kick Ass).

Jay Baruchel Could Take Over the World in ‘The Trotsky’

The Trotsky Poster

Whenever I watch independent movies, I always worry about how cliche they will be, or if the plot will round itself out the way I want it to, and I even worry about whether or not the actors will be able to really reach into their characters the way that I have come to appreciate and expect in films that I love. My boyfriend and I (who watch way too many movies and far too much TV) will sometimes joke about how indie movies are “hit or miss” because generally speaking, we either end up loving them or hating them. But indie flicks are always from somewhere raw. They’re movies that are made out of love as opposed to being made out of potential for box office bang (not to be hatin’ on Iron Man 2 or anything, I loved it!). These are the movies that are slathered with love in all the nooks and crannies, and The Trotsky is no exception.

The Trotsky stars up-and-comer Jay Baruchel and besides being an official selection of the 2010 Tribeca Film Festival it also has the HWHills Stamp of Approval. Both are a huge honor, obviously. Just like any other movie experience, I tried to go into this one with an open mind. Baruchel has amused me before in Knocked Up and even in She’s Out of My League but he hasn’t had enough chances to play the leading man, in my opinion. The Trotsky not only gave him the opportunity to play a leading man, but also an interesting and developed character, in Leon Bronstein, a 17 (and three quarters) year old kid who believes he is the reincarnation of Russian revolutionist and Marxist theorist, Leon Trotsky.

Kate Hudson and Jessica Alba Get Spanked in ‘The Killer Inside Me’

The Killer Inside Me
Kate Hudson, Casey Affleck, Jessica Alba

IMDb News reports that Jessica Alba isn’t the only one who gets spanked in the new thriller, The Killer Inside Me. It looks like Kate Hudson is also lucky enough to get some whoopin’s from co-star Casey Affleck. The film focuses on Affleck‘s character, a small town West Texas Deputy Sheriff who turns out to be a sociopathic killer. Hudson plays his girlfriend while Alba plays his hooker/mistress. Kate says:

‘Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides’ to be 3D

Short and sweet, baby: Disney Studios Chairman Rich Ross has finally confirmed that Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides will be filmed in Disney Digital 3D. It seems like that’s the trend these days, so I can’t say as I am very surprised. My boyfriend seems to think it’s just a ploy to get us to pay more money for our movie tickets, but I think this one is a movie that could actual be really cool in 3D. Maybe I’m a sucker just like the rest. Thoughts? Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides is in theatres May 20th, 2011.

Joan Rivers Documentary is ‘A Piece of Work’

For some of you the name Joan Rivers may provoke laughter or fear. But for some people, it provokes feelings of curiosity. I mean, every time I look at her I wonder what she looked like before all the surgeries. And being a twenty-something, I didn’t have the privilege of knowing Joan as anything more than a cackling red carpet reporter who had an opinion almost as big as her mouth. But apparently IFC Films wants you to know that there is more behind the mask.

Film Synopsis: Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work takes the audience on a year long ride with Joan Rivers in her 76th year of life; it peels away the mask of an iconic comedian, laying bare both the struggle and thrill of living life as a groundbreaking female performer. Filmmakers Ricki Stern and Annie Sundberg (The Devil Came On Horseback, The Trails of Darryl Hunt) expose the private dramas of this irreverent, legendary comedian as she fights to keep her career thriving in a business driven by youth and beauty.

See the preview for Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work, due out June 11th, below.
