Richard Donner Kills Another 80’s Reunion Rumor
Richard Donner has gone from directing some of the best 80’s movies to ruining our hopes for more 80’s movies. Earlier this week we heard Donner break the news that “Lethal Weapon” would never reach #5. Now he’s busy punching a hole in the Goonies sequel balloon.
“We tried really hard, and Steven (Spielberg) said, ‘Let’s do it.’ We had a lot of young writers submit work, but it just didn’t seem to call for it… I’m in the process of trying to get it done as a musical on Broadway. Wouldn’t that be great?”
Nah. A musical wouldn’t be cool. Either way, this is directly opposite for what “Goonies” star Sean Astin had previously described. Astin gave details of an animated sequel, set to star the children of the now grown Goonies, in a “definitely happening” movie. Sheesh. I don’t know how he ever protected Frodo and played for Notre Dame if he couldn’t just be honest with us.
