Robert Pattinson Gave The 411 On Why He Chopped All His Hair Off At People’s Choice Awards

I watched the PCAs, cowering on my sofa, watching via my shuddering, lagging Ustream, and even with its 15 minutes later than real time delay — this show defecated with bells on.

My first take on Pattinson’s appearance was what on earth had he done? A nearly bald, thick-set, shuffling Brit making an apology of a speech while obviously making some sort of point’ via his new ‘radical’ buzzcut.

But, while I miss the transcendant version Pattinson presented as before, I recognise that this was a necessary exorcism for him.

Despite how it may look, it can’t be easy to be ‘that’ beautiful, undeniably male yet boldly open, funny and interesting and — at such a young age — fascinate the world? Pattinson has palpable presence. This we know, or people wouldn’t be talking about him in the first place. There is a reason people are enthralled by this young man — even the one’s who say they aren’t.

And while we’re being honest, can we all stop pretending it’s just teens who find this guy mesmerizing. It isn’t. It’s older women, men, media and the industry as a whole that is curious to see what Pattinson has in the kitty. The truth is; there is something of the soul about Pattinson, something that waits — and is waiting to be unleashed.

And that is why many believe, in time, Pattinson will become one of the greatest actors of his generation. If, or when, he finally realizes this, perhaps then he will allow himself not to be afraid of, or pressured by his own beauty. Because right now, this young man clearly just wants a break from the relentless focus on his looks.

At the outset of 2012, Pattinson’s statement is this: I am more than hair, face and body. Now let me show you.

Frankly, it’s a classy move any way you look at it.

A Keane-your thoughtful and well written response was more compelling than the article itself. I agree that Pattinson is a young actor whose star will continue to burn brightly for decades to come providing he is able to break away from the public’s preconceived image of him as a broody 17 year old vampire. For those of us who have been following his career and watching him take on different roles such as Jacob in Water for Elephants and Tyler in Remember Me, we already know this to be true.
Pattinson came into the game late and unprepared. He did not intend to follow this particular path; indeed all he wanted was to be a working actor who was able to pay his bills and enjoy being with his small circle of friends. He lived a humble life going from one small gig to another, shifting from music to acting as the need or the opportunity presented itself. However, his charismatic personality, handsome face and natural talent became a tour de force when he became a part of a romantic pairing (the likes which we have not seen since perhaps Wuthering Heights) that took the world by storm and catapulted him into stardom.
At 25 years old he is still learning his craft and discovering who he is, both as a man as well as an actor.
Is he more than a pretty face who will be nothing more than a flash in the pan? Time will tell. From all accounts he is extremely intelligent and is known to be somewhat of an eccentric, therefore he may choose to walk away from this crazy life and do something different altogether. Whatever he does I believe will be done on his own terms and will be carried forth with grace, class and a sense of purpose. I look forward to following his career and wish him all the success in the world. With or without his hair-he is stunning!

I must say that the individuals who have commented on this article have been a lot more articulate and insightful than on any other site I have visited to date. It is so refreshing to read comments that reflect on Pattinson as an actor and discuss his talents rather than those gossip sites that perptuate rumors about his personal life. I hope that he stumbles upon this article and is able to appreciate it for himself. Something tells me he just might.

this is exactly what i was thinking while reading Keane’s comment: “well written response was more compelling than the article itself”..lol.. i find it amusing that more and more people who aren’t see themselves as fellow Twifans, become involved, interested in Robert’s career willing to see what his fans (me including:) have seen almost the moment he entered that coffee shop in Twilight;).. if it was only for pretty face nothing would have happened. there was much much more..

You, people are inspiring in many ways. Well said, Keane. Everyone has well-versed comments that are seriously heartwarming to read.

It’s not the first time Rob did something like this with his hair. Back in 2009. Not this short, though. It’s one of the things I love about this guy – he doesn’t conform with HW’s glam rules for the ‘It’ guy. He’s a goofball that trolls on his own. Onward…

And by teens, some mean the ‘females’. That’s, meh. Being on the later teenage years myself, I truly agree with this statement. There are older fans. There are guy teens and the like who like his movies. It irks me that people hastily generalize Robet Pattinson’s fans to be limited to teenagers or barely teens, loving the Twilight phenomenon which catapulted him to fame. True. This gave him the screen time to be introduced to wider audience [I like the saga; nothing against it, just to be clear]. However, it shall not appear that having teenage fans is some sort of negation to an artist’s ability. At any rate, actors do have teenage fans. Most actors do. So what if he’s a goofball, awkward, ‘adorkable’, foot-in-mouth and eccentric? These make him who he is. To judge his ability through perceived attitude is a bit overboard. Ad hominem much? For the sake of preventing hypocrisy, I don’t know him personally, just seeing his interviews and the like. Nevertheless, I have faith in what I see and feel from him. It’s not often that someone like him gets a shot of fame.

“The truth is; there is something of the soul about Pattinson, something that waits — and is waiting to be unleashed.” Another point that should be remembered, in my opinion is that: Twilight is not the only — although maybe most recognizable for non-fans — work Rob has done in his career. It seems hardly fair that he would be judged solely based on the saga, which has received so much bigotry and antagonism. Remember Me, How To Be, Little Ashes, TBH, WfE are other films to name a few. There are also soon-to-be-released Bel Ami and Cosmopolis. He may not have a laundry list in his arsenal but the extrema of roles he has done so far are proof of his versatility and that ‘waiting to be unleashed’ talent. Robert is an artist, an actor and a musician. Not many people would like his bluesy kind but the soul and emotions of his voice are captivating, un-explainable but you understand, somewhere in the recesses of your psyche.

Robert Pattinson is more than just a mop of wild hair, intense eyes or angular jaw. More than a pretty young thing. As Jess said: “I admire the fact that he could give a fu** what people think about his hair. I think people know he feels like that. To be honest that’s his biggest appeal. He doesn’t follow Hollywoods rules he follows his own. He’s real and people pick up on that.”

What the future holds? We’ll see about that.
