The next installment of Star Wars, “The Clone Wars”, will be released in theaters on August 15, 2008. I really get the feeling that this movie is passing too quietly in the night and will be missed by many of its mainstream audience. I’m sure the fanboys will be there, but I’m not so confident the casual Skywalker fan will be paying enough attention to realize what’s going on.

“The Clone Wars” was written by George Lucas himself, so you’re not getting a franchised off version. Dave Filoni was brought in as the director and has had experience with the animated genre as he also worked on “Avatar: The Last Airbender”. Most of the original cast from I through III are not back, including wooden actor Christensen thankfully, but some of the folks like Samuel L. Jackson will be reprising their character’s voice.

Check out an extended clip from the upcoming release. It makes me wish for less of the hacky dialogue, but the action looks like solid Star Wars fare. Unless terrible pre-reviews come rolling out I’m still planning to see this on the big screen.
