The 2011 Golden Globe Awards nominations were announced Tuesday morning and as always there were some “huhs?” and “oh wows.” Some good, some not so go. Among the “oh wows” include no “127 Hours” in the Best Picture or Director category. Also, Julia Stiles in the Supporting Actress category for her part in this season’s “Dexter.” I’m happy “Dexter” got another nod, but I was kind of hoping Jennifer Carpenter would finally get acknowledged.

And a big “huh?” for me was “The Walking Dead” getting nominated for Best Drama Series. First of all, it was six episodes. And while entertaining, I just don’t see the first season as a powerhouse. I was thinking the second season could catch on with award shows, but not the first. I think everyone’s still in the honeymoon phase with that show. It’s new (but not fresh — face it) and still in the minds of the Hollywood Foreign Press, so I guess that explains the nomination. And it seems to have pushed “Breaking Bad” off the list. That’s interesting.

More “huhs?” came from all the “The Social Network” noms.

The complete list

I haven’t screened the movie, but from what I’ve seen and read, Franco and the movie are phenomenal. So I’m making an early Oscar prediction. Franco will be nominated if not win. That is if all of his stunts turn Oscar voters off from taking him seriously. In that case, there’s always a Daytime Emmy for “General Hospital.”

The trailer for “127 Hours” has me pretty sold on the movie. Directed by Danny Boyle (“28 Days Later,” “Slumdog Millionaire”), the film tells the true story of Aron Ralston (Google for spoilers). Ralston (James Franco) is an adrenaline junky who has an unfortunate accident and is stuck in a crevice for 127 hours. The claustrophobe in me isn’t sure if I can handle it, but I’d hate to miss another Boyle masterpiece.

The last scene of the trailer is pretty amazing.
