New Hot Pursuit movie got mostly negative reviews from top critics. New Line Cinema (Warner Bros.), MGM released their new comedy/action flick, “Hot Pursuit,” into theaters this weekend, and all the reviews are in from the top movie critics. It turns out that most of them didn’t like it, giving it an overall 30 score out of a possible 100 score across 33 reviews at Metacritic.com.

The movie stars: John Carroll Lynch, Reese Witherspoon, Sofia Vergara, Richard T. Jones and Rob Kazinsky. We’ve added blurbs from a couple of the critics, below.

Sara Stewart at the New York Post, gave it a mediocre 50 score, stating: “Witherspoon’s charge, Sofía Vergara as a recalcitrant witness in need of police protection, is an adept slapstick comic likewise hamstrung by director Anne Fletcher’s sluggish pacing, which reliably stays with a scene for three beats beyond the punch line.”

John Anderson at the Wall Street Journal, gave it a 50 grade as well, saying: “Hot Pursuit is about two women finding sisterly common ground despite ethnic, religious, philosophical, temperamental and/or phonetic differences. It also seems an inevitable stop on Hollywood’s perpetual recycling drive, which caters to an audience perfectly content with the creaky and familiar.”

Leah Greenblatt from Entertainment Weekly, gave it a 50 score. She said: “What’s spanglish for déjà vu? There’s hardly a single moment in Hot Pursuit that won’t remind you of scenes you’ve seen at the multiplex a thousand times before. (The movie’s original title was Don’t Mess With Texas, probably because Thelma & Louise Ride the Pineapple Express All the Way to Jump Street — and They’ve Got Lethal Weapons, Y’all! was just too long.)”

Glenn Kenny from RogerEbert.com, gave it a 50, saying: “As a delivery system for a newly minted and reasonably engaging if not always laugh-out-loud comedy team — Reese Witherspoon and Sophie Vergara — Hot Pursuit works.”
