New Lucy movie got mixed reviews from top movie critics. Universal Pictures released their new action/thriller flick, “Lucy,” into theaters yesterday, July 24th. And all the reviews from the top movie critics are in. It got mostly mixed reviews with an overall 59 score out of a possible 100 across 34 reviews over at metacrtic.com. The movie stars: Scarlett Johansson and Morgan Freeman. We’ve posted blurbs from a few of the critics, below.

Joe Morgenstern at the Wall Street Journal, gave it a great 90 score, stating: “It’s gleefully bold, visually adventurous, often funny, strikingly concise — the whole heart-pounding tale is over in 90 minutes — and 100% entertaining.”

Claudia Puig over at USA Today, gave it a 75 grade. She said: “Scarlett Johansson is ideally cast as a rapidly evolving kick-ass hero in Lucy, a stylish action thriller that is equal parts dazzling and ludicrous.”

Ty Burr from the Boston Globe, gave it a 75 score, stating: “It’s all ridiculous and enjoyable, and at the movie’s center is an actress creatively guessing at what omniscience might feel like.”

Mick LaSalle at the San Francisco Chronicle, gave it another 75 score. He said: “A full-out action movie – and a sober rumination on the nature of existence. It is both things, effectively and sincerely.”

Kyle Smith over at the New York Post, gave it a 75 grade. He stated: “In a captivating climax, the movie turns attractively freaky, though somewhat marred by cheesy special effects, and there’s a huge debt to the immense leaps of “2001.” An abrupt ending feels frustrating and leaves questions floating in space. Then again, I’m using only 3 to 5 percent of my capacity, so what do I know?”

Jeff Labrecque from Entertainment Weekly, gave it a 75 score also, stating: “By the time the film exhausts itself—in a brisk 89 minutes — it feels like there’s literally nowhere that Lucy and Besson can’t go, no boundaries, no laws, no logic. Just go with it.”

Manohla Dargis at The New York Times, gave it a 70 grade, saying: “Buoyed by Ms. Johansson’s presence, Mr. Besson keeps his entertainment machine purring. He may be a hack, but he’s also a reliable entertainer.”
