In the battle for tweens’ dollars there can be only one victor and this week it was Zac Effron as the High School Musical star dethorned Miley Cyrus for the top spot at this weekend’s box office. “17 Again” took first place with a decent $24 million while Russell Crowe continued his pace of disappointing openings at $14 million with “State of Play.” A surprisingly low debut was Jason Statham’s “Crank 2″ which had been benefiting from heavy online marketing, but apparently not enough.
