Weekend Movie Earnings – August 22 – 24, 2008
It was another weekend in paradise for Stiller, RDJ, and Black as “Tropic Thunder” maintained its #1 spot for the second week in a row. New comers “House Bunny” and “Death Race” tooks spots #2 and #3, respectively, leading the overall weak debut for four new movies.
The bigger duds were Ice Cube’s “The Longshots” which still managed to make almost double that of Rainn Wilson’s “The Rocker”. Wilson had made joking threats against his “The Office” co-worker “Pam” that he’d hold her hostage until his movie broke $17 million. After just $2.7 million and coming in #12 I think this could take years to reach.
Domestic box office movie earnings this weekend, August 22 – 24, 2008:
- “Tropic Thunder” $16.1 million [$65.6M total]
- “The House Bunny” $15.1 million [$15.1M total]
- “Death Race” $12.2 million [$12.2M total]
- “The Dark Knight” $10.3 million [$489.1M total]
- “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” $5.7 million [$24.9M total]
- “Pineapple Express” $5.6 million [$73.9M total]
- “Mirrors” $4.8 million [$20.0M total]
- “The Longshots” $4.3 million [$4.3M total]
- “Mamma Mia!” $4.3 million [$124.4M total]
- “Mummy 3″ $4.0 million [$93.8M total]
