Once again, Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon’s critically panned but box office successful comedy “Four Christmases” took the top place in movie earnings this weekend. Forget about the two new premieres this weekend, “Punisher” and “Cadillac Records”, as they both barely made a blip on the radar coming in at 8th and 9th, respectively. Teen hit “Twilight” crawled back over last weekend’s #2, “Bolt”, to reclaim the second spot at the box office.

Has the Christmas shopping season dug into audience numbers enough to keep the box office earnings low for the rest of the year? Maybe it’s just the complete lack of decent new options that’s stopping people from hitting the theaters.

Domestic box office movie earnings this weekend, Dec 05 – 07, 2008:

  1. “Four Christmases” $18.1 million [$70.8M total]
  2. “Twilight” $13.1 million [$138.5M total]
