Weekend Movie Earnings – June 20 – 22, 2008
Smarts won out over Love this weekend as Steve Carell’s remake of “Get Smart” heartily beat out the other new debut of “The Love Guru”. Smart’s earning of nearly $40 million was more than double that of Mike Myer’s Guru pull of just $14 million.
“The Love Guru” had been plagued by bad, make that terrible reviews panning the character actor’s return to the screen with a thinly rehashing of his “Austin Powers” character. Clearly bad word of mouth hit this one square on the chin and helped to keep the audiences away.
“Indiana Jones 4″ pulled within $10 million of the $300 million this week while “Iron Man” broke the barrier earlier this week. Look for Indy to swing past that mark in the next week.
