Weekend Movie Earnings: June 26 – 28, 2009
No surprises here. “Transformers 2″ dominated the box office with $112 million in 3 days and a total grossing of over $200 million since it broke into theaters on Wednesday. That’s not too bad for a movie consistently reviewed as horrible. “Transformers 3″ is undoubtedly in the works already.
Comedies stood their ground against the robots from outer space with “The Proposal” and “The Hangover” each sliding down one position to round out the top 3 at this weekend’s box office. The Cameron Diaz tear-jerker, “My Sister’s Keeper,” brought in a modest $12 million.
Look for Michael Mann’s “Public Enemies” to pose a serious threat to “Transformers 2″ hopes of remaining at the top of the pile now that its hardcore fans are satiated and word of mouth isn’t likely to help.
