Negative early reviews be damned! “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” tore through theaters this weekend launching the summer blockbuster storm with an incredibly impressive $87 million in box office movie earnings. I wasn’t one of those handing over my money, but if word of mouth carries this one above the bad reviews then I might still consider it.

“Ghosts of Girlfriends Past” played up a modest showing with $15.3 million while the other new arrival “Battle for Terra” couldn’t break the top ten and came in at 12th with just $1.0 million.

Watch for things to continue in an upward trend with next week’s release of JJ Abrams’ revival of “Star Trek.” Now that’s one that will get my money on opening night.
