Weekend Movie Earnings – Sept 5 – 7, 2008
Wow. This was definitely not the weekend for movies. Nic Cage’s new shooter, “Bangkok Dangerous”, barely made a blip on the radar with $7.8 million and that was the top box office earner of the weekend.
“Tropic Thunder” is close to breaking the $100 million marker while “The Dark Knight” looks like it’ll fall short of its chance at topping the $600 million record held by “Titanic”. On a positive earning note, “Disaster Movie” just barely broke $10 million after two weekends. I consider this positive because perhaps it will finally teach studios to stop making that crap.
On a side note, with $47.6 million from the top 10 movies this box office had the worst movie earnings in nearly 7 years (Sept 21-23). Nice going, Nic.
Domestic box office movie earnings this weekend, Sept 5 – 7, 2008:
- “Bangkok Dangerous” $7.8 million [$7.8M total]
- “Tropic Thunder” $7.5 million [$96.8M total]
- “The House Bunny” $5.9 million [$36.9M total]
- “The Dark Knight” $5.7 million [$512.1M total]
- “Traitor” $4.6 million [$17.6M total]
- “Babylon AD” $4.0 million [$17.1M total]

- “Disaster Movie” $3.3 million [$10.8M total]
- “Mamma Mia!” $2.7 million [$136.2M total]
