Will Ferrell Sacha Baron Cohen

Will Ferrell, the perpetual “buddy” comedian, has found a new role to team up on: Watson. Columbia Pictures is bringing Sacha Baron Cohen (Borat) back together with Ferrell again after their turn in Talladega Nights with a new Sherlock Holmes film. It’ll be a comedy, of course, and looks to have quite the pedigree, according to Variety:

Columbia Pictures has set an untitled comedy that will star Sacha Baron Cohen as master detective Sherlock Holmes and Will Ferrell as Watson, his crime-solving partner.

Etan Cohen (”Tropic Thunder”) is writing the script, and Judd Apatow and Jimmy Miller will produce.

“Just the idea of Sacha and Will as Sherlock Holmes and Watson makes us laugh,” said Col co-prexy Matt Tolmach. “Sacha and Will are two of the funniest and most talented guys on the planet, and having them take on these two iconic characters is frankly hilarious.”

I’m pretty excited for “Tropic Thunder” later this summer, but until then I’ll have to wait and see on Cohen’s writing. We’re already well familiar with Apatow’s work, so there shouldn’t be any questions there.

Interestingly, this won’t be the only Sherlock project in the works. Warner Bros. has Guy Ritchie in the director’s chair for what will undoubtedly be a more serious project.
