Earlier this week Deadline reported that Disney has spent seven figures on a pitch for a live action version of the classic Cinderella. This is news that I had to let stew, because just like any other twenty-something female (or any female of any age, let’s be real here) I am obsessed with the old school animated Disney movies. If I had to pick one to be made into a live action movie, the first picks would be Sleeping Beauty or The Little Mermaid but I suppose I can see the complications with taking on the latter. And while Cinderella is one of my favorite fairy tales and one of my favorite Disney movies, it still seems to be one of the most commonly re-told stories out there. Remember Ever After starring Drew Barrymore? Dreamy sigh.

So the live action version of Cinderella will be penned by Aline Brosh McKenna, who also wrote the scripts for The Devil Wears Prada and romantic comedy 27 Dresses, so she has some experience making us swoon already. But could a live action version of Cinderella ever top Disney’s Enchanted starring the adorable Amy Adams? I’m not so sure. Enchanted was a mixture of ALL of the pretty Disney princesses, along with the studly prince-like looks of Patrick Dempsey to boot. Who would be your pick to play the new Cinderella? I’d like to see someone a little less conventional, myself. And no, Hilary Duff and Brandy Norwood don’t count. Shudders.
